My brother played ball. My mama had me and my two younger siblings to get through that gate, and never quite enough in her hand to do it.
I watched her stand there and do math in her head. Count the money. Count us. Count it again.
Some nights she got us all in. Some nights she stayed in the car so we could go watch him play.
That is where this started. First I was going to call it Geaux Mom. Then I thought about my daddy, and about every father sitting out there wanting to be in that stand just as bad.
So it is not one or the other. It is the whole squad. Mama, daddy, granny, auntie, whoever is raising that kid and wants to see them play.
If you got a kid on that field, you belong in that stand.
